On the Eve of New York Auto Show, in New York’s “Future Taxi”, NIAASN NV200 taxi debuted in New York. This New York “Future Taxi” will also debut in the coming 2012 New York International Show. From April 6^th to 15^th, the drivers, passengers and employees of taxi companies in New York may see the prototype of NISSAN NV200 “Future Taxi” on New York Auto Show in Javits Conference Center.

According to sources, the prototype of “Future Taxi” NISSAN NV200 is to make up and debut on the 12^th Beijing Auto Show across the ocean. By then the prototype of this NIAASN NV200 will strike a pose in the booth of Nissan. Today in all large cities in China, the batch-production of ZNA’s NISSAN NV200 is occupying CDV market at an unusual speed.

In New York there are about 600 thousand taxi passengers every day and such symbolic yellow taxi has become the sign of this city. “We’re proud of bringing New York’s traffic to a new epoch by this ‘Future Taxi’ of Nissan NV 200.” Ghosn said, “the unique ‘Future Taxi’ agglomerates global experience of Nissan in commercial vehicle manufacturing, also reflecting deep understanding of Nissan Motor on taxi drivers and passengers in New York. Through strict bidding and selection process for two years, in May, 2011, New York City taxi and Limousine Commission appointed NISSAN NV200 taxi as the specified taxi to be put into use in this city by the end of 2013. Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, Design Trust for Public Space and Smart Design also took part in the design of this taxi together with Nissan and New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission.

The reasons why CDV model represented by NISSAN NV 200 is favored by New York, a van of international trend are the safety, comfort and manipulability based on the car platform and the van body indicating large room satisfying the carrying demand. Besides, Nissan added some personalized designs such as sliding door with electric footstep and handrail on this NV 200 taxi to make entry and exit easier. Furthermore, a 2.0 L 4 –cylinder engine is carried on the NISSAN NV200 so as to effectively reduce the emission of the taxi tail gas and enhance fuel efficiency. What is worth mentioning is that 1.6 L NISSAN NV200 has been introduced by ZNA to Chinese market in 2010 with remarkable sale performance. Today ZNA has introduced CDV concept in China and established brand-new vehicles for domestic market. As a result Chinese consumers may enjoy internationalized experience brought by NISSAN NV200 like New Yorkers.

According to reports, there are about 13000 taxies in New York, accumulating to 500 million miles every year. Therefore, the robustness of the vehicle has become one of key considerations during the design process. Based on design and manufacturing of commercial vehicles and experience in taxi design for other cities in the world, before the launch of NISSAN NV 200 taxi, Nissan had conducted a lot of tests. Just as Mayor Bloomberg said on a Press Conference in May, 2011, NISSAN NV200 “Future Taxi” will become the first taxi passing through collision test in the state of completely being equipped (including separation).

This taxi adopted the design method from inside to outside in consideration of opinions of New York’s taxi drivers, fleet managers and passengers. Besides, in cooperation with international leading auto product supplier Braun Corp, Nissan is devoted to development and production of innovation solutions for passengers using wheelchairs. With NISSAN NV 200 put into use in 2013, Nissan will provide this special group with effective solution.

NISSAN NV200 taxi will be produced in Nissan’s plant in Cuernavaca, Mexico at suggested retail price of USD 29700 around.

In 2007, New York Government called all related parties including taxi driver representatives, taxi companies and passenger representatives to make a whole set of goals for the next generation of taxi in “Future Taxi” project. “Future Taxi” project is the result of joint efforts of Design Trust for Public Space and New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) as an overall design of the whole taxi system including vehicle types in the 21^st century. In December, 2009, TLC sent “Letter of Invitation” to request the auto makers and designers for design proposal about a multi-purpose vehicle as the model of “Future Taxi” in New York.
